Growth in Continental Europe remains robust in Q1 2017

Europe commercial real estate investment totalled €56.1bn in Q1 2017 according to CBRE. Trading activity in continental Europe increased despite elections in several notable markets. A total investment volume of €39.9bn was recorded; up 12% on Q1 last year. The German market continued to impress and posted an increase of 49% year on year. After a calm Q1, which reflects a trend from previous years, France will likely benefit from optimism and strong demand for gateway markets in the remainder of the year as investors get more clarity on the election results. While volumes for the UK were down on Q1 last year, an upturn in central London investments is an encouraging sign of improving sentiment. Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Spain and Sweden all had a record Q1.
